Ms. Gomes began her career as an ICU clinical dietitian. She went on to counsel patients in oncology and in a private practice setting for clients seeking weight management and diabetes nutrition therapy. Ms. Gomes is the Corporate Dietitian for The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company family of supermarkets, a grocery chain which operates stores in the United States under six retail banners including A&P, Pathmark, Super Fresh, Waldbaum’s, the Food Emporium and Food Basics Stores. She provides timely nutrition information that can help shoppers make informed choices about what to select to feed their families when shopping in their stores. Ms. Gomes also develops and implements programs that promote health and wellness to customers and represents the chain through media appearances and in-store promotions. As the chain’s nutrition expert, Ms. Gomes frequently visits schools, community centers and conducts nutrition store tours. She receives questions about shopping on a budget, how to prepare fish, how to select produce that is in season, dietary advice on food allergies and chronic disease and much more. Ms. Gomes subscribes to the philosophy of “all foods fit”; and gives consumers valid, timely and science-based information on leading a healthy life, preventing and managing disease while enjoying their favorite foods. “I love to teach, and giving consumers the proper tools and advice to make the best decisions they can at store level is one of my main priorities. Now more than ever, consumers are looking to food as preventative medicine; there is no better place or time to teach people about food and better-for-you products than at the grocery store.” Ms. Gomes is currently the media spokesperson for the New Jersey Dietetic Association. Ms. Gomes has made multiple appearances on television news stations including News 12 – New Jersey, The 10! Show. NBC Philadelphia, and HITN Cable Station and has been a guest on Radio Disney AM 1560, CD 101.9 FM and WRRC 107.7 FM radio stations. She is also a regular contributor to New Jersey Life Health & Beauty Magazine and the Produce for Better Health Foundation “Insider’s Viewpoint – Expert Supermarket Advice” column. Ms. Gomes has also been published in the peer reviewed journal “Insulin” as well as in the Journal of the American College of Nutrition for her work in the study “Almond Consumption and Cardiovascular Risk Factors in Adults with Prediabetes”. Ms. Gomes was recently presented with an award by the American Dietetic Association for “Emerging Dietetics Leader”, 2011. She holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology from Monmouth University, New Jersey. She has completed an MBA in Corporate Communications from Fairleigh Dickinson University, New Jersey and completed her post-graduate dietetic internship program at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey.
